Abstract: The potential of neutral red modified strong acid cation-exchange resin for separation of heavy metal pollutants has been explored. The distribution coefficients (Kd) of twelve metal ions in nitric acid and hydrochloric acid systems have been studied. On the basis of Kd values, some analytically important binary separations Al3+ from Fe3+, Zn2+ from Fe3+, Cu2+ from Fe3+, and Ni2+ from Fe3+ have been achieved. The practical applicability of the modified material has been demonstrated in the analysis of a synthetic mixture for selective separation of Fe3+.
