Abstract: Silica particles were obtained by Stöber method in presence of N-methyl-D-glucamine. It was noted that amount of Nmethyl-D-glucamine used to synthesis did not affect the physicochemical
properties of prepared sorbents significantly. The investigated samples had similar content of nitrogen and were characterized by
similar water uptake. The sorption behavior towards borates was investigated
in a batch system at pH=9.5. The studies showed that sorption was controlled by
the Langmuir mechanism and sample capacity was 0.2 mmol/g. The pseudo-second-order model described the boron sorption
on prepared materials adequately.
